Mend & Remake volunteers (no experience needed – various positions)

Mend & Remake is a community repair and upcycling program, and we’re always keen to welcome new volunteers.
You don’t need to be a sewing expert or a marketing pro (though we love those too). What matters most is being friendly, curious, and happy to help in whatever way feels right for you.

- Support participants during sessions and help keep things running smoothly
- Help ensure everyone understands basic WHS and feels comfortable
- Take photos, invite people to complete surveys, and help document the event
- Purchase materials, manage stock, and suggest improvements for future sessions
Social media and promotion

- Post stories, schedule posts and suggest ideas to promote events
- Set up and manage Facebook events
- Share events in relevant community and social media groups
Marketing and communications

- Help prepare monthly emails for people who’ve signed up
- Support paid ads (if relevant)
Sewing support volunteers (beginner to experienced)
You don’t need to be an expert sewer to help. We welcome sewists of all levels, from beginners through to advanced makers.
Depending on your experience and comfort level, sewing volunteers may:
- Demonstrate basic sewing and mending techniques
- Help participants fix, alter or repair garments
- Support darning, patching, hemming and simple alterations
- Assist with creative upcycling and garment transformations
- Show participants how to safely use sewing machines and overlockers
- Help troubleshoot sewing issues and problem-solve repairs
- Suggest suitable materials or techniques for different garments
- Provide hands-on guidance while encouraging people to learn and try things themselves
You can choose what you’re comfortable helping with. Some volunteers focus on simple repairs, others on creative upcycling, and some just help people get started.
