Hear the story of an innovative renewable energy project in Uganda from project manager Ashley Wearne. Learn how foreign aid works on the ground as Ashley leads us through the journey of pioneering the first bundle of decentralised village-level solar mini-grids in Africa – from refining the technology, to lobbying policy makers, attracting investment into a risky setting and designing the regulatory framework.
About Ashley Wearne
A project manager, economist and decentralisation enthusiast, Ashley has worked with European foreign aid projects in East Timor, Uganda and Mozambique. Ashley’s work is dedicated to reimagining social and economic development with grounded technologies, having supported numerous countries with their energy, waste and climate strategies. Developing a strong passion for agriculture and ecology along the way, he continues to work with communities at the nexus of public infrastructure, tech innovation and agricultural value chain development.
